Charli was the sexy, undead host of Macabre, a collection of humorous horror shorts and supernatural-themed pinups. She introduced the stories, but beyond that she provided a counterpoint to the countless unfunny horror hosts of comics and television shows past and present. Why horror has become associated with terrible, leaden jokes and obvious puns is a mystery to me, and Charli shared my loathing of that tiresome convention. She was witty, without making the reader groan (hopefully), and she assumed the reader had a brain. It also didn't hurt that she was hot as hell.
